How do own goals affect my football bets? Understanding how goals are credited is one of the most common questions we receive, especially when a player accidentally puts the ball into their own net. To make settlement as simple as possible, our football markets are divided into two main categories: Player Markets (where own goals do not count) and Match Markets (where own goals are included). Player Markets In player-specific markets, own goals do not count. Because these bets rely strictly on an individual player scoring for their team, an own goal is not considered for settlement purposes. As such, markets such as these will settle on the next subsequent goalscorer, if there is one.Which markets does this apply to? First, Last, and Anytime Goalscorer Player to score 2+ (Brace) / Hat-trick Player Match Bets / Player Specials No Goalscorer Scorecasts & Wincasts (The player portion of these hybrid bets) Match Markets For match and team-based markets, own goals are fully included. These markets are settled strictly on the final scoreline at the end of regular time (90 minutes plus injury time). The identity or team of the player who physically kicked the ball into the net does not matter.Which markets does this apply to? Match Result (1X2) & Double Chance Correct Score Both Teams to Score (BTTS) Over / Under Goals (e.g., Over 2.5) Handicaps & Goal Lines Total Team Goals ⚠️ A Note on Deflections vs. Own GoalsSometimes it is hard to tell if a goal is an own goal or a deflection. We settle our markets strictly using the official ruling from our data providers at the end of the game: Deflection (Attacking Player's Goal): If an attacking player's shot was on target but took a deflection off a defender before going in, it is credited to the attacker. Player markets will count this. Own Goal (Defender's Goal): If the original shot was going wide of the goalpost but was redirected in by a defender, it is officially ruled an own goal. Player markets will not count this. Further details on how these markets are settled can be found in our sports rules here If you need any further assistance, please see our contact details here.
