Why are payments via credit cards being disabled?
The Gambling Commission, the UK’s gambling regulator, has announced a ban on gambling businesses allowing customers to use credit cards to gamble.
When will you disable depositing via credit cards?
From March 16, 2020, it will no longer be possible to make direct deposits to your Virgin Bet account via a credit card.
Will I be able to use the balance deposited from my credit card after this date?
Yes, you’ll still be able to use funds deposited from credit cards after the ban has been implemented, but further direct top-ups will not be allowed.
Will I still be able to withdraw deposited funds back to my credit card after this date?
Yes, you will.
If the payment method on my PayPal account is a credit card, will I still be able to deposit?
PayPal has started work to ensure compliance with the Gambling Commission’s ban on allowing consumers in Great Britain to use credit cards to gamble. To change your preferred payment method, go to your PayPal wallet. For further information, please refer to PayPal’s T&Cs.
Why have I been able to make direct deposits with a credit card until now?
According to statistics from the Financial Conduct Authority, most adults in the UK hold credit cards, with over 30 million cards in circulation. We’ve allowed direct deposits with credit cards for the convenience of our customers, although they make up less than 10% of deposits.
Why is Virgin Bet choosing to ban credit cards earlier than required?
We’ve chosen March 16 to give our customers plenty of notice and to allow them to source alternative funding methods if necessary.
If I’ve deposited via a credit card, which I can no longer do, can I withdraw money via a different method?
Until further notice, we’re leaving withdrawals to credit cards open. If the credit card you used to deposit with has expired, you may withdraw funds back to a bank account in your name.
Will my credit card details be deleted by Virgin Bet after this?
No, we won’t automatically delete your credit card details. This will allow you to withdraw funds back to the card while it is valid.
